PRE-PURCHASE SURVEY

Overview

The purpose of the pre-purchase survey is to provide an independent assessment of the general condition, structural integrity, and current standard of the vessel at the time of inspection. The survey is intended to assist you, as the prospective purchaser, in making an informed decision regarding the vessel’s condition and value.

The survey will include a comprehensive visual examination of the accessible areas of the vessel, including the hull, superstructure, decks, internal accommodation spaces, machinery spaces, and installed equipment.

The hull will be inspected externally and internally where accessible using visual examination, percussive testing, and ultrasonic thickness measurements, where considered necessary and appropriate. Particular attention will be given to signs of corrosion, distortion, impact damage, osmosis, cracking, previous repairs, water ingress, wastage, or other defects that may affect structural integrity or seaworthiness.

The stern gear, including propeller, shaft, rudder, bearings, and associated components, will be visually inspected where accessible, for condition, alignment, wear, corrosion, security, and any obvious defects visible at the time of survey.

The superstructure, decks, windows, hatches, guardrails, and external fittings will be inspected for general condition, signs of deterioration, damage, or poor repair.

Internal inspection will include the accessible structural framework, bulkheads, bilges, tank spaces where accessible, accommodation areas, and general onboard layout. The survey will look to identify visible defects, deficiencies, moisture ingress, ventilation concerns, and apparent safety issues.

An overview inspection of the main engine, auxiliary machinery, steering systems, plumbing systems, fuel systems, and installed electronic equipment will be carried out on a non-invasive basis.

The Surveyor is not acting as a qualified marine engineer, mechanical engineer, or marine electrician and therefore cannot provide certification, dismantling, internal inspection, or specialist diagnostic testing of machinery, propulsion systems, gas installations, or electrical systems. Comments made regarding machinery and electronics will be based solely upon external observation and apparent operational condition at the time of inspection.

The survey does not include dismantling, destructive testing, removal of fixed panels, operational sea trials unless separately agreed, pressure testing, electrical load testing, or inspection of inaccessible areas concealed by linings, fixed furniture, cargo, equipment, or coatings.

A written report will be provided detailing the Surveyor’s findings, identifying observed defects, recommendations for repair or further specialist inspection where appropriate, and an overall opinion regarding the vessel’s general condition at the time of survey.
